Dear MOTIVATION: As the new year approaches, my schedule is filled with everyone else’s needs, while my self-care gets pushed to the backseat. I find myself saying ‘yes’ to others at the expense of my own well-being and potential “me” time. How can I create some much-needed “me” time to reset and reward myself without feeling guilty? I know self-care should be a personal priority, but it’s so hard for me to make it one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! – SEEKING BALANCE IN THE NEW YEAR IN MARYLAND
DEAR SEEKING BALANCE: It’s terrific that you’ve recognized the importance of self-care. Start by scheduling small blocks of “me” time each week, just like you would for a meeting. Try setting boundaries—learn to say no when needed. Engage in activities that make you feel self-rewarded, whether it’s reading, walking, exercising, relaxing, or enjoying a hobby. Consider involving supportive friends and family; they may even join you! Remember, prioritizing your own well-being is essential to help others. Embrace this journey to balance in the new year!
